Unique boutiques, Finnish design One of Helsinki’s more chic neighborhoods, surrounding Diana Park, was officially named the Design District in 2005. The World Design Capital title is bestowed upon the cities that best utilize design to improve cultural, economic and social life. The World Design Capital project is the brainchild of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, or ICSID. Founded in the late 1950s, the ICSID has grown to represent approximately 150,000 designers and includes more than 150 members from over 50 countries.
